Anecdotals from the Classroom: A Request

It is always helpful to receive from teachers written descriptions of problem classroom behavior. For us to be really helpful to all parties, however, we ask that descriptions of each instance of problem behavior be accompanied by

  1. a description of the immediate circumstances in which the behavior occurred,

  2. the results of the behavior from the student’s perspective, and

  3. at least two behaviors he or she has engaged in at other times in the day that were appropriate if not praiseworthy, and the circumstances and results of those.

Behavior occurs as a function of context. Therefore, context is critical; without it, we know nothing except that the behavior occurred. Think of the information requested here as that which can help us predict it. Thank you!
